DeKalb County Tax Commissioner reminds vehicle owners to renew tags before the holidays

DECATUR, Ga. – As many residents are preparing to travel for the holiday season, DeKalb County Tax Commissioner Irvin J. Johnson is reminding vehicle owners to check their registration to avoid delays.

“With the holiday season upon us, ensuring your vehicle registration is current should be on your travel checklist before any road trip, whether it’s local or long distance,” said Tax Commissioner Irvin Johnson. “Driving with an expired car tag, or without a tag, can hamper holiday travel plans and could be costly in the long run.”

To avoid delays, taxpayers can go online to renew their vehicle registration, pay insurance fines, check their vehicle title and insurance status, change their vehicle registration address, and more at eservices.drives.ga.gov.

Additionally, most services can be performed at a self-service tag renewal kiosk daily, including weekends and holidays when offices are closed.  Vehicle owners can renew their registration, pay insurance fines, and more at a participating Kroger store.

New this year, several tag renewal kiosks now offer Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) transactions, including driver’s license renewal, identification card renewal, motor vehicle record, change of address, and driver’s license replacement. For kiosk locations, visit DeKalbTax.org/kiosks.

“We’re reminding vehicle owners doing business at the Memorial Drive tag office to expect long lines and wait times the week before and the week after a holiday. To avoid delays, consider visiting the Clairmont Road or South DeKalb Mall satellite office locations for in-person services,” said Johnson.
