DeKalb County Tax Commissioner


Nicole Golden was sworn in as Tax Commissioner in DeKalb County on December 31, 2025. In her role, Ms. Golden is responsible for billing, collecting, and disbursing $1.8 billion in personal and real property taxes, as well as administering homestead exemptions for all qualified property owners.

She also serves as a tag agent for the State of Georgia, processing motor vehicle registrations, collecting motor vehicle taxes, issuing vehicle tags and titles, and completing all vehicle registration renewals for citizens and businesses located in DeKalb.

Prior to this role, Nicole served as DeKalb’s Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner for nine years, where she oversaw daily operations and managed a staff of 114 employees. During her tenure, she led critical service improvements before and after the pandemic, including launching an online appointment scheduling system, implementing online filing for homestead exemptions, introducing a new property search portal, and redesigning the office’s website to enhance user experience. She was instrumental in expanding satellite office locations and kiosks throughout the county, as well as bringing tax services directly to senior centers. Under her leadership, the office was also recognized as a Tyler Public Sector Excellence Award winner for deploying Tyler’s iasWorld software in innovative and impactful ways, resulting in the timely submission of the county’s tax digest.

Ms. Golden has more than 22 years of legal experience and, before joining the Tax Commissioner’s Office, she was the Chief Assistant District Attorney at the DA’s Office in DeKalb. She supervised over 175 employees, a $13 million budget, and prosecuted felony criminal offenses. She tried murder, serial rape, and domestic violence cases. She also served as a special prosecutor in the Crimes Against Children Unit, where she prosecuted child murders, molestations, and abuse cases.

Nicole is a proud graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana and an alumna of Emory University School of Law. She is a 2013 graduate of Leadership DeKalb and a member of the Junior League of DeKalb, the National Council of Negro Women DeKalb Section, the DeKalb Lawyers Association, and the Clarence Cooper Inn of Court.

Ms. Golden is a former Atlanta Falcons Cheerleader and a member of several community service organizations, including Jack and Jill of America, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. For the last 20 years, she has served as the Decatur Regional Coordinator for the High School Mock Trial Competition and currently serves on the PTA and Principal’s Advisory Council at Wadsworth Magnet School. Nicole is a 25-year resident of DeKalb, with 22 years of service in DeKalb County Government.
