Property owners can access bills, make payments, and sign up for billing notifications online to avoid delays
DECATUR, Ga. – The DeKalb County Tax Commissioner’s Office recently began mailing nearly 250,000 property tax bills to property owners for the 2025 tax year. Owners who signed up for e-Alerts may also check their email for billing notifications. Bills can be accessed online at publicaccess.dekalbcountyga.gov.
“A sample bill, including what you need to know about your tax bill, frequently asked questions and payment methods, is available online at DeKalbTax.org,” said Tax Commissioner Irvin Johnson. “I highly encourage taxpayers to consider online payment, pay-by-phone and secure drop box options to avoid long lines and wait times when paying in person.”
Taxpayers can pay their bills in two installments by the Sept. 30 and Nov. 17 due dates. Taxpayers choosing to pay the full amount at once must do so by the Sept. 30 deadline to avoid a late fee. Bills for City of Atlanta properties in DeKalb will be mailed at later date.
Payment methods for current and prior year taxes:
ONLINE: Visit publicaccess.dekalbtax.org. Credit/debit card payments are accepted; processing fees apply. There is no service fee for paying by e-check.
PAY-BY-PHONE: Call 770-336-7500, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Credit and debit card payments are accepted; processing fees apply. There is no service fee for paying by e-check.
DROP BOX: Secure drop box available at all three office locations. Payment must be placed in the box by the due date; cash is not accepted.
IN PERSON: Offices located at 4380 Memorial Dr., Decatur, GA 30032; 3653 Clairmont Rd., Chamblee, GA 30341; South DeKalb Mall at 2801 Candler Rd., Suite 66, Decatur, GA 30034.
MAIL: Must be postmarked by the USPS by the due date to avoid late fees; metered or kiosk postage dates are not accepted as proof of timely payment. Please consider alternative payment methods due to ongoing mail delivery issues.
Due to volume, payments received by mail during payment season may take up to a week to post once received. If you do not see your payment posted online, please contact the property tax department before placing a stop-payment on a check. Cancelling a payment may result in a late fee and NSF fee.
Tax bills are not mailed to mortgage companies by the tax commissioner’s office. Property owners should contact their closing attorney, mortgage company, escrow agent or review their closing statement to determine who is responsible for paying the taxes.
“If you are a property owner who has not received a bill, please contact the tax office. The non-receipt of a bill does not relieve the owner of the responsibility to meet payment due dates,” said Johnson. “Property owners may also sign up for billing notifications at https://publicaccess.dekalbtax.org to avoid delays. To opt in, click the Sign up for E-Alert button on the property information page.”
For questions regarding property values, please contact the county’s Property Appraisal Department at 404-371-0841. The deadline to appeal values was July 18 for real estate property; July 24 for personal property.
